Assistant Superintendent Update

November 2026

A cartoon turkey wearing a Pilgrim hat stands behind three orange pumpkins and the text 'NOVEMBER'.

Many thanks!

As we turn the calendar to November there is much to be thankful for in the Lynnfield Public Schools. I want to express my sincere gratitude for all staff who have dedicated themselves to helping ensure our students have a positive learning experience.

Our upcoming full professional development day and subsequent early release day are filled with quality opportunities to help support accessible and supportive educational environments. Our newly formed district SEL team will meet on Wednesday for the first time as well. Thank you for your anticipated attention and effort in our professional development time.

Lastly, I want to recognize the work of our newly formed district curriculum team who has put in significant work preparing for the LPS Data Presentation to school committee on November 12th.

Planning for Success: The LPS Strategic Plan

Our strategic plan remains at the forefront. One  iniative to highlight is our focus on iniative 4 which is about strengthening partnerships with families and community. Our plan states:
  • 4A: Strengthen collaborative relationships with families
  • 4B: Foster supportive and engagement school communities
To start we have already had over 20 opportunities that contribute to this area and provide opportunities for engagement.

For teachers: Tuition Reimbursement & Salary Advancement

Tuition Reimbursement Requirements

Please note the following contractual deadlines will remain firm to ensure equity across the district:

Tuition Reimbursement Application

Fall: August 15
Spring: December 15
Summer: April 15

Please note the tuition reimbursement review process will not commence until after the application deadline to ensure equity district-wide. Per the collective bargaining agreement, “in the event the pool of money for a particular semester is inadequate to pay all of the staff members requesting reimbursement, there shall be a lottery to determine which staff members receive reimbursement.”

Tuition Reimbursement Requirements:
  • Send an email to the Assistant Superintendent indicating the course, college/university and if possible cost of course
  • Apply for reimbursement using the “Tuition Reimbursement” form through TeachPoint within the timelines above
Upon completion, submit the following (attach both documents below to the initial Tuition Reimbursement request in TeachPoint and notify the Assistant Superintendent (this is the only notification):
  • Transcript reflecting a grade of B or better (must be a letter grade, no pass/fail options)
  • Receipted copy of the bill for tuition
  • Sending an email with receipt and transcript helps expedite the process and is highly recommended.

**Approval in Teachpoint does not guarantee reimbursement but it formally documents that the course is approved for reimbursement eligibility and application to credit counts, etc.

Salary Advancement
A teacher may record a change of degree status for a salary increase as of September 1, provided notification is given by the preceding November 15th that a change of degree is anticipated and subject to a written verification from the college or university that all degree requirements have been met. This includes the B+15, M, M+15, M+30, CAGS and Doctors’ levels, provided notification is given by the preceding November 15th that a change in level is anticipated.

  • Email the assistant superintendent by November 15th for the next year’s anticipated salary advancement
  • Be prepared to submit transcripts to support the request
  • Advancement can always be pushed if the courses are not completed
  • The November 15th deadline helps LPS prepare the proposed budget

Thriving, Inclusive and Empowering Schools

LPS is committed to thriving, inclusive and empowering schools. November has some important observerances to consider. I'd like to highlight with Veterans Day on November 11th. Schools are closed this day but I would ask that all provide our students some background on this day and encourage them to thank a veteran for their service or learn more about veterans in our community.  Here is a link to an education guide for educators.

Here are some resources to help inform our work promoting inclusion and belonging.

Inspiring Pioneers!

Once again I am excited to share innovative and rigorous work that is occurring in our schools. This month I have included images from our Family Night Potluck coordinated by our fantastic ML educators.
